Kathy Dor, LCSW
psychotherapist
Hi, my name is Kathy Dor and I’m a psychotherapist who believes in an individual’s ability to transform their lives and manifest the success they wish to achieve. Whether it’s helping individuals improve their mental well-being , healing couple and family relationships, or addressing work-related issues, together we can explore any negative pathology & negative perceptions that you may have about yourself or the world that’s holding you back from being the best you can be. Through various, treatment approaches I will help guide you in building the knowledge, focus, and courage to overcome any obstacle with ease and grace.
So you’re on this website and you’re wondering whether I’m the kind of therapist who would genuinely understand you, and accept you while helping through your journey. Well, let me tell you a bit about myself. I began pursuing a career in therapy at the University at Albany, State University of New York. My personal and professional experiences over the years have shaped my therapeutic style. From dealing with individuals with serious persistent mental illness to children with ADHD it has always remained constant that I view my practice as a space where all can feel accepted without fear of judgment. I believe those who seek therapy with a desire to grow and a willingness to challenge themselves will bring about positive change in themselves.
In our initial call together, I ask a few questions about what kind of support you’re looking for and I will propose some options for what therapy could look like if we worked together. I value collaborating with my clients to ensure we are adjusting our work in such a way that it best meets your needs. Most importantly, I strive to create a safe space to do this work. Some of the elements I utilize to foster safety include:
- Holding an open-minded, non-judgmental approach Tailoring therapy to your individual needs Creating space for collaboration and feedback Striving for your best interest over my own, including referring you to a different therapist if we might not be the best fit to work together.
- And, as is required of all therapists, holding your privacy sacred. I don’t ever reveal information about my clients outside of the office and take all reasonable measures to protect your privacy whenever information is transferred digitally (e.g., email, scheduling, and credit card processing).
